Moore Park ~~ A Prime Toronto Neighbourhood
Moore Park Overview
Moore Park's cozy atmosphere stems from the fact that it is surrounded by natural barriers on all sides. The community is bounded on the north by Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and the Park Drive Ravine is located on the south. To the east is the Moore Park Ravine, with the Vale of Avoca Ravine on the west side of the neighbourhood.
The Moore Park area was named after a prominent businessman in the late 1880's and early 1900's, John Thomas Moore. Moore began developing the land he owned in the area in 1889 as a desirable neighborhood for wealthy Toronto families.
The Moore Park Ravine is currently maintained by the City of Toronto Parks and Recreation department. Mud Creek flows through the Moore Park Ravine, and contributes to the natural beauty that surrounds the community. Visitors and local residents make good use of the Ravine's well-known walking path. The natural areas are also a draw for bird-watchers and other nature lovers.
With so much nature at its doorstep, it is not surprising that Moore Park is one of Toronto's most sought after neighbourhoods.
Shopping
Moore Park residents do most of their shopping at either the Yonge and St. Clair or the Mount Pleasant and Davisville shopping districts. Both of these areas are well known for their gourmet food shops and fine dining. Moore Park residents who live in the more secluded south-east pocket of the neighbourhood can walk across a railway overpass to the small collection of neighbourhood stores on Summerhill Avenue. Recreation
Nature and fitness enthusiasts will enjoy the Moore Park Ravine foot path, an 8 kilometre trail that passes through the Rosedale Ravine, the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, and the old Don Valley brickworks. Moorevale Park, one block east of Mount Pleasant Road, has five tennis courts, a baseball diamond, and a wading pool. For movie-goers Moore Park is close to a number of theatres on Yonge Street, Eglinton Avenue, and Mount Pleasant Road.
Moore Park Homes
Moore Park includes primarily English Cottage, Georgian, and Tudor-style homes, primarily built between 1908 and 1930. Typically, homes are situated on fairly large lots. Many residents enjoy very private back yards because their homes back up to one of the ravines that skirt the area.
For such a high-end neighbourhood, it is almost surprising that many of the houses have shared driveways rather than private ones. However, the streets are quiet and uncluttered, and parking is not a problem.
There are also homes in Moore Park that require less maintenance. Many newer townhouses as well as a significant number of duplex and multi-plex homes are available to choose from.
If you are looking for a quiet neighbourhood with easy access to the outdoors, Moore Park real estate might be for you! |
